Grant your blessing so that my mind may be one with the dharma
Grant your blessing so that dharma may go along the path
Grant your blessing so that the dharma may clarify confusion
Grant your blessings so that I may transform confusion into wisdom

Nyungne Retreat at Karma Tashi Ling - October 8th to 10th, 2011
Resident Lama, Ani Kunsang will lead a Nyungne retreat at Karma Tashi Ling centre on Thanksgiving weekend, October 8 - 10.
Nyungne (pronounced NYUNG NAY) is a special fasting practice of purification and renewal practiced by all the major traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Traditionally, the practice is conducted as part of a meditation retreat, although once practitioners have participated in such a retreat, they are able to perform the practice on their own. It is extraordinary both for its profound spiritual qualities and for its practicality in application.
The Nyungne includes two full days of practice and a short concluding session on the morning of the third day. Participants take a set of strict vows on the morning of each day. On the first day, they eat one meal at noon and unlimited liquids throughout the day. The second day is a strict and complete fast with no food or liquids, and is conducted in silence except for liturgical recitations. (If anyone has medical reasons for eating food on the fasting day, this can be accommodated.)
The meditation is centered around the liturgy, mantras, and visualization of 1000-Armed Chenrezig, the embodiment of the compassion of all enlightened beings. The Nyungne was originated by Gelongma Palmo, an ancient Indian princess. She overcame severe illness through devoted and extensive practice of 1000-Armed Chenrezig, and passed the methods and blessings of this practice down through a lineage of practitioners that continues to this day.
The retreat will be two full days of practice on October 8th and 9th (start and end times are still to be determined) and will finish on Monday October 10th at about 10am. Anyone who has not done the practice before, or would like a refresher, should come to Karma Tashi Ling on the Friday evening, October 7th, at 7pm and receive some instruction from Ani Kunsang.
If you are planning to attend, please register by sending an email to info@karmatashiling.ca. We will need to make you a copy of the text, and provide any follow up information about the retreat, such as start times. We will ask for a small donation (about $10) to cover Saturday lunch and photocopying.
If you have any questions about the Nyungne practice, please feel free to talk to Ani Kunsang, 780 633-6157.
